The Wooden Beacons consist of three towering ‘cages‘ made by RIVA 1920 using American red oak, walnut and cherry. Wood is Matteo Thun’s favorite material in architecture and design and is used in this collaboration as a statement of material gratitude. Even when treated it remains natural looking.

The cages are filled with ‘software‘, paper patterns, fabric offcuts and jewellery pieces in resin, composed by Marni to unveil a process of creation. Their interpretation of the life cycle of products from inception to manufacture is reflected in the interaction of this hardware and software and is what brings the installation alive.
