Using a pentagon as the primitive form enabled Ed Swan to make each side of the tables and stools in the Shift Series from different American hardwoods. The pentagon frames clad with different American hardwoods in different orientations, thus the simple act of moving an element has a tangible effect - something geometric and graphical yet straightforward and satisfying.
