Maggie’s Oldham, the world’s first building made from hardwood cross laminated timber (CLT), has opened in the UK. Designed by dRMM Architects and supported by the American Hardwood Export Council, this is a pivotal moment for modern architecture and construction.
Our new development shows the environmental impact of delivering one cubic meter of kiln dried sawn lumber of the selected American hardwood species and thickness to the overseas customer using the specified transport route. It also provides the ‘grown in seconds' information on species and shows accurate information on eight environmental impact categories.
Over 39,000 m2 of American red oak has been used in Bloomberg's newly opened European Headquarters in London. Designed by a team at Foster + Partners, led by Norman Foster himself, the building is set to put U.S. red oak on the map.
The Smile is the most ambitious cross laminated timber structure ever built. Designed by Alison Brooks Architects and Arup using American tulipwood cross-laminated timber. The Smile was a ground-breaking Landmark Project for the London Design Festival 2016 set to transform the way architects and engineers approach timber construction.
For over 25 years the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) has been at the forefront of international wood promotion, successfully building a distinctive and creative brand for U.S. hardwoods. AHEC’s global programme of activities secures a future for American hardwoods by demonstrating the performance and aesthetic potential of these sustainable materials, while providing valuable creative inspiration and technical advice.
