The Smile is the most ambitious cross laminated timber structure ever built. Designed by Alison Brooks Architects and Arup using American tulipwood cross-laminated timber. The Smile was a ground-breaking Landmark Project for the London Design Festival 2016 set to transform the way architects and engineers approach timber construction.
Room on a Hill is the elevated playground designed by Asif Khan using thermally modified American tulipwood and ash for Chisenhale Primary School in Bow, East London, UK.
Khan, who has two children at the school, approached the American Hardwood Export Council and AKT II structural engineers to collaborate with him on the project, while the active parent body at the school raised funds through fetes and other events held throughout the year.
The Workshop of Dreams unites four of Spain’s most exciting architects and designers, with inspiring talents from diverse cultural fields, in a celebration of Spanish creativity and craftsmanship.
