The Kurunpa Kunpu collection was made by Chris Nicholson from MAST in Brisbane. All 3 timber species selected for this project are natural choices for fine furniture making.

American cherry is easy to machine, plane and turn. It glues well with good performance in screwing and nailing. With excellent carving and moulding properties, cherry can easily be sanded, stained and polished to a fine, smooth finish. Cherry can darken in tone quickly on exposure to light bringing a further richness to its finish if desired.

American walnut remains one of the most sought after species for furniture making. It works easily with both hand and machine tools and can be stained or polished to a characteristically luxury finish. The wood dries slowly and has excellent dimensional stability when dry. It is one of the most durable American hardwoods.

American hard maple is revered for its hardwearing properties, delicate colour and fine finish. Widely used in a variety of applications, it is excellent to machine, bore, turn and finish.
