Tulou is a playful dividing screen that creates a dialogue between the two dimensionality of a flat surface screen and the three dimensional individual triangles made from curved and cupped tulipwood that sit within the screen. The installation is the first time that Andrew Haythornthwaite and Peter Marigold have worked together. The design process moved through a number of dramatic iterations including a giant organic canopy and a series of standalone giant tree like structures. Each stage had at its core a playful lightness in response to the lightweight timber being used.
