Words on Wood is a new podcast exploring forests and the timber industry, and why the decisions we make about their governance are essential to designers and architects. Developed by the AHEC in conjunction with Disegno, the podcast offers a deep dive into some of the big issues surrounding forests and our relationship to them.
AHEC and renowned Italian furniture makers RIVA 1920 have teamed up to create the first edition of the Design Award "A seat at the table", which aims to discover emerging design talent from Italy and give a selection of four designers a voice and a platform to exhibit their work and ideas. The project will award four table designs in solid wood, using one of a choice of three sustainable American hardwood species: American red oak, cherry and maple.
With a focus on American red oak, hard and soft maple and cherry, AHEC has teamed up with 9 young designers to create an object that reflects their approach towards “slow design for fast change”.
Wallpaper* and AHEC present Discovered, a global project to support and promote the work of 20 next generation designers from 16 countries. With a focus on American red oak, hard and soft maple and cherry, each designer is challenged to create an object that responds to their experience of a pandemic world. Designposts is a collaboration between LDF, the American Hardwood Export Council, and three leading British furniture makers Benchmark, Sebastian Cox and Jan Hendzel. The initiative aims to pay tribute to the diverse history and creative culture of London’s neighbourhoods; to give emerging designers a platform to showcase their talent; to give festival-goers a free open-air exhibition of thought-provoking art and design; and to present the potential of an underused and highly sustainable material – American red oak – to Europe’s creative community.
