For Sydney Design Week 2022, the Australian Design Centre hosts External Review, a collaboration between the American Hardwood Export Council, award winning designer Tom Fereday, furniture manufacturers Evostyle and upholstery specialists, Swiss Design. External Review follows, and celebrates, the entire design process from the source of the raw material through to manufacture and final presentation with the purpose of shared learning.

Anne-Claire Petre, Adam Goodrum, Adam Markowitz, Coco Reynolds, Dowel Jones, Jon Goulder, Ross Gardam and Tom Skeehan rose to the challenge of replacing the timber they normally use for their signature designs with American tulipwood. Tulipwood has been favoured in Europe for generations, but is little known in Australia.
For over 30 years the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) has been at the forefront of international wood promotion, successfully building a distinctive and creative brand for U.S. hardwoods. AHEC’s global programme of activities secures a future for American hardwoods by demonstrating the performance and aesthetic potential of these sustainable materials, while providing valuable creative inspiration and technical advice.
