The craftsmen from La Navarra say this project was relatively simple to manufacture, as the design provided by Izaskun was incredibly detailed.

The two teams – architects and makers – held several meetings right from the start of the project to exchange ideas and to ensure that what they were designing could be manufactured in a realistic manner.

The most laborious part of the work was breaking down the piece into the different components for their fabrication. Although A window to the Arzak universe features six different timber species, the designers had clearly specified which type of wood they wished to use for each piece, and as such, the process ran smoothly.

“We have merely changed a few small details of the design, such as hardware details that were not possible to be made, but always in accordance with the sense of the architect’s drawing.” Izaskun and her team wanted the resulting object to be directly related to the sustainability of the American hardwood forests and, as such, they focused on the proportion at which the trees of the different species grow in the forests of the U.S. to determine which type of wood to use for each part of the furniture. They used some of the most abundant species, such as red oak and tulipwood for the larger components, and other less abundant species such as alder and cherry, for the smaller ones.
