Re-editions is a collaboration between the American Hardwood Export Council and Bangalore-based furniture manufacturer, Phantom Hands. It features eight pieces of furniture (tables and seating), each made in American red oak or cherry; designed by Dutch duo x+l, Japanese-Danish duo Inoda+Sveje, Australian architect and furniture maker Adam Markowitz and the iconic Sri Lankan Architect Geoffrey Bawa.
Murubi's latest collection - Collection 3, titled The Sweet Life - is inspired by the beauty of leisure and cherishing the present moment. It celebrates life as a mindful, slow journey where every day offers something to savor, embracing the unique imperfections that add character. The collection includes lounge chairs, center tables, bookshelves, and chairs, primarily crafted from solid American ash. Each piece invites you to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, creating a space to enjoy life’s sweet, simple pleasures.
REFRACTIONS is a cross-cultural, international design collaboration between award-winning Australian architect, furniture designer and maker, Adam Markowitz and celebrated Indian furniture manufacturer, Phantom Hands. Commissioned by AHEC, the collection is made from three sustainable American hardwood species - cherry, maple and red oak.
AHEC and THINK! Design present REIMAGINE, AHEC’s biggest and most ambitious design collaboration in India to date. The project challenges five of India’s leading architects to recreate that quintessentially Indian piece of furniture: the swing seat (jhoola). The architects involved are Annkur Khosla, Naresh V Narasimhan, Prem Nath, Sanjay Puri and Sonali & Manit Rastogi.
Jhoolas, which were a common sight in most Indian households, seem to have fallen out of favour in recent times. Nonetheless, they continue to have an allure on account of the memories they carry. For REIMAGINE, the architects are being asked to draw on their childhood memories of playfulness, their teenage years of angst and to temper these with ‘grown-up’ elegance in a furniture piece for a contemporary context; a limited edition, legacy piece made out of American hardwoods.
Our new online tool shows the forest distribution, growth and removal of American hardwood species across the United States and is available online, now. This technology presents accurate information at fantastic detail – from the whole of the United States down to individual counties – and demonstrates visually the true sustainability of American hardwoods.
For over 30 years the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) has been at the forefront of international wood promotion, successfully building a distinctive and creative brand for U.S. hardwoods. AHEC’s global programme of activities secures a future for American hardwoods by demonstrating the performance and aesthetic potential of these sustainable materials, while providing valuable creative inspiration and technical advice.
