Making at Benchmark

At Benchmark, components for the dressing screen were cut out using a CNC machine and any unwanted bits removed using a jigsaw. Max also wanted to experiment with colour, as the porosity of the red oak makes it ideal for absorbing colour. Teal blue dye was pushed deep into the pores of the wood and the wood was then sanded, leaving it a subtle blue hue.

“The approach I took was to apply colour on to the surface of the wood and push it deep into the pores, letting that dry and then sanding back the wood so that the colour is present in the open pores but not in the main surface and it doesn’t disguise the natural colour of the red oak” - Max Lamb
