Max's design process

When Max Lamb started making his dressing screen, he wanted the piece to be free-standing and for the form to have a softness to it. The challenge he faced was keeping the design simple, avoiding using bought hinges or having to make his own more complicated form of a hinge. His solution was to slot the components together, like a flat-pack, and to emphasise the softness of the piece he put a generous bullnose detail on the edges.

"Almost immediately I wanted this thing to have a human quality that would work well with fabric. I started with soft forms and shapes, with hooks and protrusions made from pieces of the material. This piece has a personality, it’s almost like a person standing in the room handing Maria her clothes to put on." - Max Lamb
