"The project is an example of critical design. Celebrating the bountiful resources of nature and the diversity of red oak, I want it to become a signpost for everyone who values nature and sustainable design. This is an excellent opportunity to take a more responsible and more conscious look at the development and consumption of products." - Tomek Rygalik
Natural Born is shown thanks to the collaboration with the Department Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie 37). Visitors will have the opportunity to see the artistic installation interpreting the process of creating the Natural Born chair from September 26 to October 12 2019.
The finished chairs have a variety of different oils applied to show the potential of all of the possible material finishes, displayed in an unusual exhibition that captures the journey of the chair from forest to finished product.
The carbon footprint of the red oak chair is extremely low for a high-end product likely to have a long life and to be replaced only occasionally. At 9.84 kg CO2 eq., the carbon footprint of the chair is the same as driving less than 100 km in a typical European car and equal to the carbon emissions of the average European over a 12-hour period.
