The 2024 edition of Future Heirlooms engages participants from cross-disciplinary backgrounds with a focus on the South African interior design and architecture communities. The designers are invited to design an object for domestic use, which will be made from American red oak. The Future Heirlooms theme invites the designers to conceive a piece that lasts for generations to come and be of a quality that makes it worth keeping and of collectible value.

In exhibition until the end of September 2023 at The Circle space in Istanbul, Future Heirlooms invites seven emerging Turkish designers to think freely in order to create an object or a piece of furniture that fully encapsulates the themes of sustainability, longevity and quality. How do our objects help promote these themes in an increasingly fast-paced world? How can we foster a sense of thoughtful, intentional, and holistic design in order to slow down excessive production, overcomplicated supply chains, mindless consumption and waste?

AHEC and THINK! Design present REIMAGINE, AHEC’s biggest and most ambitious design collaboration in India to date. The project challenges five of India’s leading architects to recreate that quintessentially Indian piece of furniture: the swing seat (jhoola). The architects involved are Annkur Khosla, Naresh V Narasimhan, Prem Nath, Sanjay Puri and Sonali & Manit Rastogi.

This coliving apartment building showcases a stunning design that incorporates American white oak furniture and joinery elements, a testament to the holistic approach encompassing smart urban living, wellbeing, and sustainability. Utilizing approximately two cubic meters of white oak lumber (sawn timber) and an abundance of white oak veneer, the space exudes a serene and inviting atmosphere that promotes physical and mental health among residents.ed by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and donated and installed by Dubai-based wood flooring specialists Lobo & Listone, the red oak provides a natural counterpoint to the otherwise ultramodern design.

Our new online tool shows the forest distribution, growth and removal of American hardwood species across the United States and is available online, now. This technology presents accurate information at fantastic detail – from the whole of the United States down to individual counties – and demonstrates visually the true sustainability of American hardwoods.
