I use the most appropriate materials for what ever it is that I am designing. I believe in using good materials that have a long life and age well.
Timber has so many idiosyncrasies that influence what you can and can’t do. I have been fortunate to work with some fantastic makers to help me realise a number of ambitious projects. One being my Molloy chair for Cult Design; the chair is made from 8 organic components that seamlessly jigsaw together. Each chair has its individual personality depending on the grain that is revealed after the parts are machined on a 5axis CNC. The chair is offered in American black walnut, white oak and ash.
My inspiration was to exploit the amazing strength and stability of American tulipwood. I have draped a seat and back over a refined frame.
