The London Design Festival presented another exciting opportunity for the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) to demonstrate the potential of U.S. hardwoods in exterior use.

In recent years we have witnessed significant changes in attitudes to wood and how it is used. The result is a widespread increase in the use of wood in building. The case studies below illustrate examples of how hardwoods have successfully worked to provide both form and function in building design.

Sou Fujimoto created "In the Clouds" using American tulipwood selected for its lighter weight and naturally workable characteristics.
The 2008 London Design Festival saw architect David Adjaye in a collaboration with the American Hardwood Export Council to create a dramatic pavilion of American tulipwood demonstrating the flexibility of the species in a unique application.
Architects Walker and Martin undertook this refurbishment project using American tulipwood for the wall which is a major feature of the building and never fails to attract comment.
