American hard maple brings warmth and light to Paris retail design

In recent years we have witnessed significant changes in attitudes to wood and how it is used. The result is a widespread increase in the use of wood in building. The case studies below illustrate examples of how hardwoods have successfully worked to provide both form and function in building design.

Davies’ interest in food and cooking led her to designing a chair that could be described in the form of a recipe. The chair is made up from a variety of hardwoods with a strong affiliation to food.

After 10 years in service the EU Veterinary Office continues to be heralded a monument to American hardwood which were used extensively in the interior and exterior of the building.The hardwoods used are performing extremely well and as expected.

Designed by architect Laurent Boudrillet, American hard maple has been used for the walls and ceilings of every reading room in the library mainly chosen for its light colour, creating a bright, luminous atmosphere.
The new head office is uses American white oak extensively for the joinery and American black cherry, black walnut, hard maple and ash all feature in internal doors, panelling and furniture.
Designed by architect Carlos Ferrater the auditorium and conference hall is designed with two outstanding features; light and space. The interior has been characterised by the use of American hard maple.
Architect Rafael Moneo restored and renovated this ancient structure in Pamplona, adding a contemporary feel. The rich red tone of American cherry set against the pale maple flooring is both elegant and timeless.
