In October 2009, AHEC (American Hardwood Export Council) welcomed 150 delegates from around the world to its European Convention in Athens. The Convention provides an opportunity for representatives from the timber trade to network and gather information on the market conditions, forecasts and trends which will impact on their businesses in the future.
The creative collaboration between the Design Development Director of Established & Sons, Sebastian Wrong, and artist Richard Woods continues with the 'Bench Press' seating installation for the entrance foyer of the V&A Museum, the hub for this year's London Design Festival. Designed in American tulipwood, the project marks the second stage in Established & Sons' working relationship with the American Hardwood Export Council.
Over 120 delegates drawn to AHEC lumber grading workshops in Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi and Cairo.
American tulipwood was the choice of timber at this year's Hay Festival, with a canopy area designed by Clare Keil and a seating installation designed by Philip Koomen.
AHEC's groundbreaking research into commercial treatments for American tulipwood, and the sustainability issues took centre stage on the stand at Interzum in Cologne.
Top UK design company Established & Sons (E&S) chose tulipwood for their ambitious installation in Milan to house their latest collection on show at the Milan International furniture fair. In collaboration with AHEC, E&S used around 70m3 of planed No 1 common grade tulipwood, which was deliberately left unfinished to show off the grain, colour and natural characteristics
The Dubai Wood Show provides focus for the wood industry in the Middle East-North Africa (MENA) region. For the third consecutive year, AHEC, with support from the Hardwood Export States Group, organised a large pavilion for US hardwood exporters at the Dubai Wood Show 2009. AHEC also hosted an evening seminar and reception at the Park Hyatt Hotel on Tuesday 21st April.
